Meet Alan Oatley

From the first time Alan danced on stage in kindergarten, he knew he wanted to be a performer. He started playing guitar at 13 and began writing and performing his songs in clubs during his years at East Carolina University.

He’s lived and performed in many different cities in the eastern US and settled in Nashville TN in the late nineties where he fell in with a group of amazing, inspiring singer/songwriters. It was in this creative environment that he wrote the songs he’s most proud of!

Creative Process

Midnight came out of a song writing exercise called “Title of the Month.“ We would choose a title among the group and then play our various songs at the next writers night. “Midnight “ was one of those titles and the minute I heard it I knew the story I wanted to tell.

Connection to Dance

I came to ECU in the early 70’s to study theatre and dance and was fortunate enough to study ballet and jazz with the renowned dancer, Mavis Ray. I danced semi professionally for a time in the late 70’s and early 80’s.

Thankful for Support

I’d like to thank my parents, Bud and Marlie Oatley who always supported the paths I chose, even when they weren’t the ones they would have preferred for me.

"Midnight unravels it all."
